Book review: The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

The Prince of Mist (Niebla, #1)The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is actually a young adult book, the main character is Max Carver, a 13 year old boy who during WW2 moves to the coast with his family. They move into an empty house whose occupants left over 10 years ago following a family tragedy.
Strange things start to happen and after meeting a local boy, Roland, Max learns about the mysterious Prince of Mist who makes “deals” and always comes back to collect. As a storm lashes the small coastal town, a secret is revealed and Max is drawn in.

This was a very quick read and I think kids of 10 to 14 would enjoy it. It has a supernatural element to it, a bit of teen romance, and some mystery and intrigue.
