Book review: The People Next Door

The People Next DoorThe People Next Door by Christopher Ransom

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“the most electrifying twist ending in years” was the quote on the back. Not really. It was a good twist but it wasn’t electrifying.

This is a story of a family coming apart at the seams. Mick’s restaurant is going down the pan, his wife is a teacher having discipline problems with some of her students, their son is becoming a typical teenager and their daughter is prone to sudden outbursts of tantrums. When Mick nearly drowns his perspective of life changes and he starts seeing strange things to do with the new neighbours. All four members of the family experience odd encounters with the new people next door, and it builds up to a psychological thriller with a horror aspect.

Some gory bits, some tension, an okay book but didn’t live up to the promises on the back cover.
